After spending its first 28 games on the road, the Bellevue University baseball team finally got a chance to utilize its homefield advantage last weekend.

The Bruins opened their home slate with three victories in four tries against Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Park University.

BU, 16-16 and ranked 20th in the latest NAIA poll, won the first three games by one-run verdicts before Park salvaged a 3-1 victory in Sunday’s nightcap.

It was the first conference series of the season for the Bruins.

BU had a pair of home games with St. Scholastica Monday and two road games at York Tuesday before returning home to Westgate Field this weekend for doubleheader games with MCAC foe Newman University Friday and Saturday.

Friday’s games begin at 5 p.m. with Saturday action to start at 1.

BU 7, Park 6 – The Bruins scored six runs in the second inning and held on for the one-run triumph in Saturday’s opener. Will Guidebeck sparked the Bruins with three hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in a pair. Brian Zeigler earned his team-leading fourth victory of the season.

BU 6, Park 5 – Bellevue pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth to snap the deadlock and earn the twinbill sweep. Skye McSweeney smacked his fifth home run in the win while Darrin Meloche added to the attack with two hits and three RBIs. Matt Zach nailed down the win.

BU 4, Park 3 – Nick Wayne’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Mark Pisel with the winning run in Sunday’s opener. Pisel had a double as BU won despite getting just four hits in the game. Luke Faxon earned the victory in relief of Ian Hagan.
