The Billings, MT native graduated high school from Billings Skyview High
School in 1995. During that time Shawn played five years in the Nationally
renowned Billings Post #4 American Legion Baseball Program for the Billings
Royals. After a successful American Legion career Shawn went on to play at
North Idaho College in Coeur d’ Alene, ID under Jack Bloxom for one year
before transferring to Mayville State University in Mayville, ND under Scott
Berry to finish his career as a player.
Due to an upper arm injury Shawn jumped into the coaching game while still
playing at Mayville State. In 1996 during his first coaching assignment he
had a very successful start by helping guide the Class A Billings Blue jays
to a Montana State Tournament Title and an American Legion Western Regional
Tournament fourth place finish. Upon graduation and shoulder surgery in 2000
Shawn picked up where he left off with the Billings Post #4 American Legion
Baseball Program as an Assistant Coach before moving his way up the ranks to
Head Coach of the Class A Billings Blue jays and then on as an Assistant
Coach for the Class AA Billings Royals where they won a Montana Class AA
State Tournament Title. To further his career in coaching Shawn and his
family moved to Omaha, NE where he coached one year with the Kingswood
Titans 12 year old team that won the 2007 USSSA State Title. Shawn then met
up with Coach Mike Evans, only to have his prayers answered by being invited
to join a National Championship caliber team where he is today.
Along with Shawn’s success in Coaching he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in
Sports Management with a Minor in Coaching and Specialization in Business
and Health from Mayville State University. Shawn and his wife Shari
(Ablott-Billings, MT) are the proud parents of daughter Regan, and Reece a
player just added to the roster November 15th, 2007. Shawn and his entire
family are very grateful to be a part of the Bruins Baseball family.
