Bellevue Bruins – 2007 Recap

Lewiston, Idaho which is the home to the NAIA Avista World Series found the 2007 Bellevue University Bruins Baseball Team visiting for the 11th time in 13 years. A heartfelt 3rd place finish at the World Series was the final result of a long year of battles for the boys in Purple and Gold. On the Road to Lewiston the Bruins claimed their 8th MCAC conference title in ten years while sweeping their way through the Region IV and Great Plains Super Regional Tournaments. Overall the Bruins finished the season 47-15. While Coach Mike Evans earned his 9th Conference Coach of the Year Award his Bruins team won its 800th game under his guidance. Along with the team successes there were a number of individual awards recognized on the Bruins Baseball Team in 2007.

Bruins Celebrate Special Day

The Bruins were out in full force November 11th to help celebrate Tanner Lusk's 8th birthday at their family's home in Omaha. Tanner, her friends, and the team played baseball in the backyard and helped to make the surprise party a memorable one. The team pitched together and provided her with her very own Bellevue baseball jersey. Tanner, less than 2 weeks after having a tumor removed from her brain stem, hit a homerun over the fence in her first at bat of the day. Interview with Head Coach Mike Evans

Q: Academically, where do you see Bellevue University and the baseball program?

Evans: We care about our student-athletes as a whole. It’s just not about having them here to play ball and send them off when their eligibility is up. One thing we try to do here is if the guys want help then we’ll help them in their job search. People know that when they are looking to employ a former player of ours that they are going to be a hard work and be dedicated. We don’t always have the best students here when they arrive on campus, but we try to help them realize that they are getting an education through their athletic talents, and by the time they leave they are much more mature and have turned around their academics and are good students.
